Please help in solving the following question. Q8. A piece of diamond is broken into 3 pcs. The weight of 3 pcs. In the ratio of 1:2:3. Price of piece of diamond is proportional to the square of its weight. Find the price of the original piece, if loss due to breaking is Rs.21000. Is it a sitter as written on this site ??

Let the initial weight be

Let the initial weight be n Then the price P1=Kn2 After the break up three piece weight will be n/6 , n/3 and n/2 So the sum of the prices will be K[ (n/6) 2 + (n/3) 2 + (n/2) 2] (let it be P) given the loss is 21000, so 1 - P = 21000 Now do the calculations to get Kn2 which is the original price
